Temasek's investment in the Scaleup Europe Fund reflects growing international institutional interest in Europe's technology ecosystem, and the opportunity to build global technology leaders from Europe.
Europe has no shortage of ambitious founders, world-class research or breakthrough technologies. From artificial intelligence and robotics to space, life sciences and advanced industrial systems, European companies are increasingly competing at the forefront of global innovation.
Building companies that can win globally requires substantial investment, often across multiple funding rounds. It also requires access to international customers, talent, commercial partnerships and the experience needed to navigate global markets.
That is why attracting institutional capital from beyond Europe matters.
A global opportunity for European technology
Temasek's investment in the Scaleup Europe Fund, managed by EQT, announced during Singapore's state visit to Sweden, reflects growing international institutional investment in the opportunity to back Europe's next generation of technology companies.
Headquartered in Singapore, Temasek is a global investment company with approximately +900 employees across 13 offices in nine countries.
Its participation brings together one of Asia's major institutional investors with a European fund established to help address the continent's scale-up financing gap.
“This investment demonstrates that Europe's next generation of global technology leaders represents an opportunity not only for European investors, but for long-term institutional capital from around the world”, says Victor Englesson, partner at EQT and co-head of the Scaleup Europe Fund. “Europe's technology ambitions are global. The capital supporting them should be too.”
International investors bring more than capital. They contribute perspectives, relationships and experience from markets around the world, strengthening the connections between European innovation and global opportunity.
For European founders, access to a broader pool of long-term capital can create more options as they scale.
Small countries, global ambition
The announcement comes as leaders from Sweden and Singapore meet to strengthen cooperation across technology, innovation and business.
Both countries demonstrate that the size of a domestic market need not determine the global ambition of its companies.
Sweden has produced internationally recognised technology businesses across multiple generations. Singapore has similarly established itself as a global centre for technology, investment and international business.
Both ecosystems have benefited from international connectivity, access to capital and an entrepreneurial culture that looks beyond domestic borders.
